The Bellwether House is a spectacular pair of adjoining Italianate townhomes built in 1876 for merchants Henry Dresser and Samuel Palmer, who once ran the largest hardware store in Savannah. It boasts the longest contiguous front porch in the city, providing ample room to lounge in the shade of our warm southern climate and people watch with a cup of coffee or tea until your heart is content. Our best rooms offer rare and charming “waltz out” windows allowing you to exit the room straight to the patio or front balcony, bringing the beauty of the city into your room. Sitting just 1 block from Forsyth Park, in a quiet residential neighborhood walking distance to the heart of the city, that beauty becomes .
Beyond the beauty and luxury of the property itself, it houses one of the finest food experiences in all of the Low Country. Our classically trained yet creative in-house chef and pastry chef prepare meals inspired by marrying the street foods of India with the long standing cooking traditions of the south to serve food that is as unique as it is familiar.
Included in every stay is unlimited breakfast service from 8AM-12PM, a perfectly crafted afternoon tea paired with a variety of treats and hors d’oeuvres from 3PM-5PM, and an evening champagne toast to celebrate each day starting at 6PM to open the bar.
Everything prepared in our kitchen is made from scratch using highly local ingredients grown with sustainable, regenerative, and organic practices to ensure the food is as nourishing as it is delicious.
Nourishment is one of our core guiding principles at Bellwether. Through setting and through food, but we also want to nourish you through restoration. We have a key focus on health and wellness and have designed programs to fit into any lifestyle and background. We offer a Vinyasa morning yoga on the patio during the 260 or so days a year the weather allows included with your stay and a high-tech gym with on-demand digital trainers at the ready anytime you are.
When it’s time to relax, our many patios and private courtyard create a serene hideaway where getting lost in the moment is highly encouraged.
If you want even more, you can step into our Greenhouse Spa and explore our collection of massage and hot bath offerings like soothing eucalyptus. All of our spa offerings use clean and safe oils and botanicals.
To make sure that you don’t get too lost in the 1800’s tranquility, we’ve created a modern system that allows as little or as much physical interaction with our staff as you’d like depending on your comfort level. Every room has a 4k QLED television packed with endless on-demand and live viewing options and games to play. It is also connected to the interactive screen in every room that allows you to explore all the events going on around the hotel and the city and keeps a calendar of any amenities you’ve booked and reminds you of appointment times. It also makes it easy to communicate directly with our staff over digital messaging to get things like itinerary planning, reservations, valet pick-up, room service, and so much more from the comfort and safety of your own room. Not to mention, you can use voice commands to play music, view the weather, hear the latest news read to you while you get ready, and set alarms to keep you on time.
Even before a pandemic hit the world, your health and wellness was incredibly important to every member of the Bellwether team. We’ve made sure to build-in every possible opportunity to make our hotel healthier and safer for everyone. We have UV filtration that cycles the air every 90 seconds in a closed loop in every room so air is not shared between rooms and have a secondary commercial grade HEPA filter that turns on automatically when it senses increased particle levels of dust and germs and traps or destroys them on the molecular level. We use cleaning products free of harsh chemicals that hurt people and our environment, but without any compromise in efficacy. Linens are all laundered off-site at a private facility using safe cleaning products and sealed before returning to our building. And, we use our high-tech communication system to keep distanced whenever preferred.
Of course, another of our core principles is community, and we believe human interaction is key to our mental and physical well being. So, we have taken every precaution to ensure that our staff are healthy and clear to provide you in-person amenities whenever you need them. This includes providing healthcare to all of our staff so they can afford to care for themselves regularly, providing paid sick leave for them to comfortably stay home when necessary, and monitoring the vitals of all on-site staff so everyone can interact with peace of mind.
